The Role:
This is a hands-on, driver/laborer position that performs a delivery service for our customer. The Local Driver reports to the Local Dispatcher. The Local Driver must be able to lift 100 lbs.,
read, write and understand English, be able to follow simple instructions, have a valid driver’s license, be Unigroup, Inc Qualified as a Van Operator, and be able to work when needed by the company. The Local Driver must also abide by all company, local, state, and federal rules as to the safe operation of a commercial vehicle.
  • Complete required company forms for each shipment serviced and as requested by dispatcher.
  • Call in and communicate load, delivery and transit schedule daily with local and regional dispatcher daily respectively.
  • Keep vehicle clean in cab area and cargo area.
  • Inform Local/Regional dispatcher of any claims/damage concerns or issues to cargo, property or vehicle immediately.
  • Maintain valid and appropriate driver’s license.
  • Maintain UVL Van Operator qualified status.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Manual and Operations Department Procedures Manual.
  • Complete all training programs as directed by dispatcher and or management.
  • Keep dispatcher informed of all occurrences and potential problems effecting the daily operations of the company.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of what it takes to manage and provide safe handling and safe moving practices to minimize cargo and property claims.
  • Additional job assignments or projects as directed by the dispatcher as deemed necessary for the benefit of the company.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / G.E.D. required.
  • Ability to communicate with people of various education levels.
  • Excellent verbal and listening skills.
  • Ability to work side by side with co-workers and to maintain a quick, workman like pace.
  • Must be able to problem solve and make sound business decisions.
  • Operate Commercial Vehicle in safe manner.
  • Lead and manage local labor during the loading and delivery process meeting Planes operating standards.

Conditions:
  • Full-time position. Generally, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime as necessary, including nights and/or weekends.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid automobile driver’s license at all times.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English.
